Have you considered rounding? So you said you're using Cinema 4D. Is that the same prog I used on my Amiga back in the 90s?

Sure ... I even like to round ... only not if it leads to an exorbitant number of unmatched vertices - with turned parts.
Had several attempts, as it is now, it was the best result.

I use an older version (17)

... actually I only use it when LDPE cannot offer certain things, such as the "knife" function, quickly and easily. (Import 1cm = 25cm).
.. after processing ... export normal (1cm = 1cm) with stl .... switch binary encoding off with Meshlab ... stl2dat ... rest as usual.
