Help writing LDraw's history [1]

LDraw's history [3] hasn't been updated for a long time. With permission from BrickJournal publisher Joe Meno we are going to mirror an article published in BrickJournal, Spring 2006, Volume #1, Issue 4, which covers also the missing years 'til 2004. This leaves us with 2005, 2006 and 2007. Browsing the various newsgroups a Lugnet [4] I compiled a chart of the highlights, but the list is far from being complete. Feel free to add the missing pieces to this post [5] at Lugnet.

2005

  • Trying to contact CA Authors at end of the year down to 22
  • James Jessiman Memorial Award to Michael Lachmann
  • Start thinking about the internationalisation of part library
  • Willy Tschager ran the LDraw booth at LEGOWorld
  • William Howard releases a client-side browser for the LDraw Parts Tracker
  • Change to existing policy regarding the subfiling of dithered colors
  • Txt2dat released
  • LDraw Design Pad v1.5.7 Released
  • MPDCenter 1.0.14 released

  • Lpub 2.4 released
  • Bricksmith 1.0 the first LDraw editor for Mac

2006

  • Authors start rewriting non-CA-parts
  • Willy Tschager appointed as second webmaster
  • Tim Gould appointed as third webmaster
  • Ross Crawford appointed as PT admin
  • LDView is the first prog downloading automatically unofficial parts from the PT
  • SteerCo publishes policy for authors who aim to fix other peoples parts
  • LSC Final Draft ratification passes
  • LSC election moved to November
  • Approved Version 1.0 of the Back Face Culling (BFC) specification
  • Adopted the "de-facto" BFC extension as the official draft specification
  • Approved new parts header format of the "~Moved to" files to support the Contributor Agreement [6]
  • Approved a format of the !LDRAW_ORG meta-statement suitable for the LDraw Parts Tracker
  • Approved a new LDraw file header to support the Contributor Agreement.
  • LDraw.org MOTM/SOTM Relaunch
  • First year without any part updates
  • James Jessiman Memorial Award to Orion Pobursky [7]
  • LeoCad 0.75 released
  • LDView 3.1 released
  • L3pAdd-on 1.4.1 released
  • LDraw Script Compiler 0.61 released
  • Version 527 of Anton Raves library released

2007

  • Official launch of the LDraw POTM - Part Of The Month contest
  • RACHAL - the Raytracing Challenge launched
  • Approved version 1.0 of the LDraw File Format specification
  • Approved proposal to allow zero or more qualifiers in the !LDRAW_ORG meta-command
  • Rejected proposal to allow one optional qualifier in the !LDRAW_ORG meta-command
  • Approved Version 1.4 of the Category and Keyword specification.
  • Voted down a proposal to make "Unofficial" directory an official location for unofficial parts
  • Added description of using " (needs work)" in the part title to allow for parts to be certified with known problems.
  • Second year without any part updates
  • Added the accountability of "Key Positions" to the Bylaws
  • The Lego Universe team has started to share information regarding the brick shapes
  • Rediscovered James Jessimans original website
  • Commemoration of the 10th anniversary of James Jessiman's passing
  • Introducing LD4DStudio - New animation software
