German Rail Bus VT 95
by "Primus" Burkhard

"Primus" Burkhard writes about his model:

German Rail Bus VT 95 (single-engine version) "Uerdinger Schienenbus"

This type of rail vehicle has been built in Uerdingen/Germany and was kept in service for decades until 1980. A variant with two engines remained active for almost ten years longer. The rail bus (which always came in dark red) was very popular with passengers and was often referred to as "red hummer", because of the rather loud, humming sound its engine produced.
Originally my LEGO model was created in 7 studs-wide, but soon I decided that it needed to be at least 8 studs-wide. Building time: 4 hours. In theory the model could be built with real existing dark red LEGO elements, mostly at least. A couple of pieces unfortunately are not availible in dark red and would require painting. Furthermore stickers are needed to split up the front and back wind screens. On my model I simply put in intersecting tiles. Because one rail bus almost never came alone, I added a second unit to form a small train.

Triebwagen VT 95 (einmotorige Version) "Uerdinger Schienenbus"
